AGWSR administration to gather bond referendum feedback

A bond referendum in the AGWSR School District failed in the recent general election.

The voters were asked to authorize the use of 14,450,000 for HVAC upgrades in the high school, bus barn replacement in Ackley and Wellsburg, and science classroom upgrades, among other miscellaneous items. Superintendent Erik Smith says while the district is in the early stages of moving forward, they’ll soon seek feedback from stakeholders.

“We’ll take some time to gather some feedback, to do what we can to try to get people to give us a response as to why did you or did you not vote?” Smith says. “What were the things that you liked? What were the things that you didn’t? We have gotten some of that already. Some task force members have had some conversations with individuals and gotten some feedback. And so we have a few things I think we can follow up on, but once we kind of get past the finalization of the vote, going out and just gathering some data on what did you like and not like about the current proposal and really then reconvene that community, that task force again, to take a look at the information, the data, and figure out how we want to best move forward.”

A recount is pending, due to the issue finishing less than one percentage point from passing.
