The AGWSR girls basketball team will conclude its pre-Thanksgiving portion of the schedule with a trip to BCLUW Tuesday for a non-conference game.
The Cougars (1-0) are coming off a 55-28 win at Madrid to begin the season Friday, where a strong defensive performance proved to be the difference in the second half. That night, they held their opponents to just 25 percent shooting and forced 32 turnovers. Head Coach David Koop says depth was a factor, with 12 players entering the game.
“It’ huge that you can go into the fourth quarter, and Josie and Trevyn, going in the fourth quarter for the first time in a long time, they were fresh and they weren’t tired and it really showed in that fourth quarter,” Koop says. “We never really let up. And I think when you can build depth and we’re eight, nine, 10 deep right now, and keep people fresh, it goes a long ways when it comes down to those fourth quarters, when we get into those tight games throughout the year. So I think everybody’s just really building confidence in themselves and the team and that’s all we need.”
Josie Kuper scored 20 points and Trevyn Smith added 16.
BCLUW is coming off a 14-9 season and returns three starters, including Grace Farnsworth at 10.9 points per game. It’ll be their second game of the season after playing at Grundy Center Monday.
The tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
