Iowa Falls-Alden Girls Basketball Will Host West Marshall in Home Opener

The Iowa Falls-Alden girls basketball team will look to keep their record perfect heading into the holiday break when they host West Marshall in their home opener on Tuesday.

Iowa Falls-Alden (1-0) following a seasoning opening win 56-52 at South Hardin on Friday. The Cadets had success with defensive pressure in the opener with 14 steals. Cidni Phipps scored 21 points and added six assists, and Brooklyn Handeland had 13 points, including four three pointers and pulled down seven rebounds to help lead the Cadets.

“West Marshall is going to be a really good team. They’ve got a returning player, Bella Borgos, who is one of the best guards in the state at all classes. We’re going to have to be ready for them and be ready for a West Marshall team who’s always got a good basketball team on the floor. We’re excited,” says Collison. “We hope to see a lot of Cadet fans in the gym on Tuesday night. We’re playing at home. We’d love to see a bunch of fans there to support our girls for that last game, before Thanksgiving.”

For West Marshall, this will be their season opener after going 14-8 last season. The Trojans return leading scorer Bella Borgos who averaged 20.8 points per game (fifth most in 3A) and also led the team in assists (62) and steals (72) last season. Top rebounder Lily Zahnd also returns after collecting 245 boards last season.

West Marshall has won five straight in the series including hanging on for a 49-45 win at home last season.

Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls.
