Community applications are now open for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s First Impressions program. The initiative helps communities strengthen their tourism economy, attract new residents and skilled workforce, and enrich quality of life.
The program is a comprehensive tourism and community assessment partnership between Iowa State University and the Iowa Economic Development Authority/Iowa Tourism Office.
The program includes advanced research and in-person visits by a trained assessment team. Assessment data is analyzed to form a comprehensive community report with actionable recommendations to enhance community vitality, elevate visitor experiences, and improve overall quality of life. This report is shared with stakeholders and local residents during a public community forum.
Communities with a population of 10,000 or fewer are invited to apply, and five Iowa communities will be selected for the 2025 program year. Community applications close January 31st, 2025.
