The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team enters the season hungry to return to double digit wins for first time since the 2021-2022 season and compete amongst the North Central Conference leaders after going 6-15 overall last season. The Cowboys return an experienced starting five, in which four played in every game last season.

Head Coach Jason Berning on the engine this year’s starting five provides for the team.

“Bryce Lindaman, Johnny Lomeli, JD Morrical, Chaz Lane, and Huxley Lingenfelter, that’s the engine that makes our team go, and we feel really good about those five,” says Berning. “You can really see that in action, four out of those five guys were in double figures in our scrimmage, it’s been a while since we’ve had that kind of scoring output. That was really fun to see that group go to work together. I think they’re gonna be really fun to watch.”

Sophomore Chaz Lane returns as the Cowboys second leading scorer with 10.5 points per game and also had a team leading 149 rebounds last season. Sophomore JD Morrical returns as the third leading scorer with 7.4 points per game and led the team with 72 assists. Senior Bryce Lindaman (79) and sophomore Huxley Lingenfelter (63) return a strong post presence for the Cowboys with a combined 142 rebounds last season.

Berning on the identity of the team entering the year.

“What we hope to be is an aggressive minded team that really wants to get up and down the floor. A key for us in practices and that scrimmage was working a lot on transition and trying to get us again into the best offensive situation that we can. That’s what we spent a lot of our time last week. In the scrimmage we got to see it in action and came away very pleased. I think we’re hitting the mark there and we’re on the right path to getting ready for real game action.”

The Cowboys will host Eagle Grove in their season opener on Monday, December 2nd.
