The West Fork girls basketball team will tip off a busy three-game week, and enter the heart of their five-game homestand by hosting an early season test against #5 (3A) Forest City on Monday.

West Fork (1-0) managed the tempo from the jump and won their season opener 59-31 over North Iowa on Tuesday, November 26. On-ball pressure created 23 steals and allowed them to widen the margin over the Bison. The Warhawks’ offense got rolling behind two double figure scoring nights for Leah Weaver with 18 points and four assists and Nehir Kanat with 16 points, including three triples.

West Fork Head Coach Rodney Huber on making the most of a three game week led off by Forest City.

“It’s a tough stretch, especially coming right off of Thanksgiving. We’ll have one practice and we play Forest City, who’s one of the best teams in 3A. We’re going to find out really quick what our team is made of,” says Huber. “Whether or not we come out of that stretch with a winning record, I don’t know, but I think it will prepare us for conference play. Either way, we’re going to be tested and we’re going to have to figure it out pretty quick. It’s a double-edged sword, but it is what we got and we’re going to do the best we can.”

Forest City (1-0) won a ranked battle 64-54 at #6 (3A) Algona on Tuesday, November 26. The Indians outrebounded the Bulldogs 32-18, including 11 offensive rebounds and shot the three at 44.4 percent in the win. Colette Loges had 18 points, including five three pointers, and Hayden Brown had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Indians.

Forest City won last year’s meeting 57-24 at home.

Action will begin at 7:15 p.m. in Sheffield.
