The Iowa Falls-Alden boys basketball team began its season with a 43-35 home loss to West Marshall Monday. It was the first game under new head coach Mike Holm.
The Trojans jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and held a steady advantage in the second for a 24-15 halftime lead. In a low-scoring third quarter, the Cadets trimmed the deficit to 27-24 entering the final eight minutes. Some empty possessions and late turnovers led to West Marshall sealing the game at the free throw line, sending the Cadets to 0-1.
Kale Kalous led with 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Carter DeBates had a team-high seven rebounds. The team shot just 23 percent and was 5/13 at the free throw line.
The Cadets will return to action Thursday at South Hamilton.
