The AP/GC boys wrestling team will begin its season with a quad at Union Thursday, where they’ll take on the #23 (2A) Knights, North Tama and Vinton-Shellsburg.
The Falcons have four returning state qualifiers, including Gage Miller at 138, Carter Liston at 132, Maison Copp at 190 and Jesse Brouwer at 215. With an experienced roster that has steadily improved, Head Coach Joel Reints says contending for a spot in the dual team rankings is not out of the question.
“In my personal opinion, I think the NICL is one of the deepest conferences in the state as far as wrestling,” Reints says. “A lot of top end talent in there, so it’s a challenge. You got teams like Denver and Union and Wapsie Valley’s good, and Sumner Fredericksburg’s always tough, Dike-New Hartford’s always tough. You just got a lot of teams that, it’s a dogfight each dual night, and the committee is going to decide what they decide. We just have to have our best showing each night.”
Last year in a quad with the same teams, AP/GC defeated North Tama, but lost to Vinton-Shellsburg and Union.
Action will begin at 6:15 p.m.
