The CEO of UnitedHealthcare, who was fatally shot in New York City Wednesday morning, has connections to Iowa.
50-year-old Brian Thompson was walking about 6:45am eastern time Wednesday to a conference for the company’s investors at a hotel in midtown Manhattan, when a male suspect walked up behind him and shot him twice. The search continues for that suspect.
Thompson graduated from South Hamilton High School in Jewell in 1993 as the valedictorian, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Iowa graduating in 1997.
He had been CEO of UnitedHealthcare since April of 2021.
The company is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities.
