The Iowa Falls-Alden basketball teams will play their first doubleheader of the season when they travel to South Hamilton for non-conference action Thursday.
The Cadet girls (1-1) will play for the first time since before Thanksgiving, and have the opportunity to get back on track. Four players are averaging double figure scoring, including Cidni Phipps with a team-high 12.5 per game.
South Hamilton (0-1) was unable to overcome cold shooting in Tuesday’s 35-23 loss to South Central Calhoun, where no player reached double figures.
The Cadet boys (0-1) will look to bounce back from Monday’s 43-35 home loss to West Marshall, where they shot just 23 percent and were outscored in the fourth quarter by five. Head Coach Mike Holm says the non-conference ramp-up is a great way to start the season.
“That’s probably a great start for us, just for the fact that we can kind of get our feet wet and see where we’re at, see what we need to do to find out chemistry and rotations and all that,” Holm says. “I’m excited for that start for us for this year, and going into conference play, it’s going to be a typical North Central Conference, up and down. It’s going to be a battle every single night. So we need to have a few games under our belt to be ready to go when we hit conference time.”
Kale Kalous led with 21 points in the loss.
South Hamilton (0-1) was put away early in Tuesday’s 78-41 loss to South Central Calhoun, where they committed 21 turnovers.
The doubleheader will begin with the girls game at 6:15 p.m., followed by the boys game.
