The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team will host Clear Lake for the home and North Central Conference opener Friday.
The Bulldogs (2-0) are coming off a 58-38 win over Nevada Tuesday, where they jumped out early to put the game out of reach. Head Coach Miranda Stafford says the veteran team is becoming increasingly multi-dimensional.
“Every kid that we have on the varsity squad right now was a fall athlete, those cross-country runners so they worked really hard and built that camaraderie,” Stafford says. “Between the four of them, they’ve got to battle through some things out on the cross-country course and then our other four girls were volleyball players, so they’re putting things in and they’re putting time in to become athletes, and that transpires over onto the basketball court. Huge to get multiple people scoring and that was a different high scorer than we had last week at AP. I think that that makes us a little bit more dimensional. I mean we’re not one dimensional, two dimensional this year. A lot of kids are looking to be more offensive. We had every kid that was in the book score against Nevada, which is fun, but they buy in on the defensive end and then they can run out and they can get some easy buckets.”
Brooklyn Valley had 14 points in the win, while Lily Hambly and Charlee Morton each added 11.
Clear Lake (1-1) is coming off Monday’s 52-48 home win over North Union, where they nearly doubled their scoring output from a season-opening loss to Ballard. Madi Ott leads the team with 11 points per game.
The teams split last year’s games. The tipoff will be at 6:15 p.m.
