The Belmond-Klemme girls and boys basketball teams will wrap-up a three game homestand as they host Central Springs for a Top of Iowa Conference crossover doubleheader on Monday. The Broncos girls will look for their first win in the series since 2022 and the boys for first win over the Panthers since 2020.
The Belmond-Klemme girls (0-2) lost a tight conference matchup to Lake Mills 39-37 at home on Friday. Adasyn Lamb and Quinn Gabrielson are both double figure scorers for the Broncos averaging 16 and 12 points per game respectively. The Broncos will look to continue to build on offensive output after being held to 45 points or less in the first two games.
Broncos Head Coach James Severson on managing a busy week of games and the post-play of Panthers.
“This week playing three games, it’s going to be tough to keep our legs underneath of us, especially at the pace that we play. It’s early in the season, get that growth of muscle and try to keep them under us,” says Severson. “It’s another Top of Iowa contest, it’ll be on the east side, but they’re going to bring a lot of power on the inside and some outside shooting, so that’ll be a good competition for us. It’ll be definitely a battle of the boards.”
The Central Springs girls (1-1) won a close conference game over Osage 32-27 on Friday. Kaci Crum is the Panthers top scorer and rebounder, averaging 15 points and 16.5 rebounds per game.
The Belmond-Klemme boys (0-2) lost a competitive game to Lake Mills 72-62 at home on Friday. The Broncos gallop behind a triple threat of double figure scorers with Kysen Lamb with 13 points, and Griffin Paulsen and Brody Heifner averaging 12 points per game.
B-K Head Coach Justin Meyer on improvement areas entering the week and the Broncos offensive style.
“Closing out the right way. Ensuring that on defense, we’re eliminating second chance opportunities for opponents. Making sure when we get the ball in the lane, we’re finishing off of two feet and finishing on balance just because that’s gonna increase our shooting percentage,” says Meyer. “Doing those little things like taking the opponent to the foul line, not settling for outside jumpers quite as much. We can hit outside shots, but we don’t want that to be our number one go-to, we really wanna work inside out.”
The Central Springs boys (0-2) lost in lopsided fashion to Osage 65-19 on Friday. Braydin Crum leads the team averaging five points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The Panthers have struggled with turnovers averaging 25.5 per game.
Action begins at 6:00 p.m. in Belmond.
