The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will play their final of four straight away games when they travel to Hudson for an NICL-Central doubleheader Friday. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.
The Falcon boys (4-0, 1-0 NICL-C) are coming off a 59-52 win at Columbus Catholic Tuesday, where they bounced back from a first quarter deficit to win their closest game of the season. Head Coach Aaron Thomas says the team is a work in progress.
“We need to attack more downhill,” Thomas says. “We’re going a little too much laterally, so the defense isn’t having to help. The other thing, we’ve got to work on just our post entry and our angles and just understanding that. But the guys have been extremely coachable. This group’s working hard. They’re giving me everything they got. We just got to keep getting better. And all of our levels, our varsity or JV, are freshman and sophomores. And that’s sometimes the beauty and the fun of coaching. When you lose guys who played for four or three years, when you get new experience, we’re going to have some growing pains.”
Four players are averaging double figure scoring, led by 16.8 points per game by Benny Waller.
The defending Class 2A runner-up, Hudson is in search of their first win at 0-2. It’s a rebuilding year after four of last year’s starters graduated.
The Falcon girls (4-1, 1-0 NICL-C) are coming off Tuesday’s 55-14 win over Columbus, where Kolbie Wangsness scored 18 points to continue her hot start to the season. #10 (2A) Hudson (3-0) defeated Sumner-Fredericksburg 68-28 Tuesday. Madison Willand leads with 15 points per game.
Pregame coverage will start at 4:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 5:00.
