The Kyle Porter Memorial Show will take place Saturday and Sunday at Ellsworth Equestrian Center in Iowa Falls. It’s a cattle show in memory of the late Kyle Porter, who was killed in a farm accident in 2020.
Kyle’s father, Lynn, says this show honors Kyle’s passions.
“His cattle business was his life,” Porter says, “Agriculture, basically, was his life even moreso. And if it was anything to do with the ag, Kyle was deeply involved. And he believed in the cattle business. He believed in kids learning how to do it correctly. And for that aspect, he was very strong on showmanship.”
Porter on what makes a good showman.
“He would be looking for someone who’s paying attention to their animal, and what it’s looking like all the time, all aspects in the ring and keeping an eye on the judge and making sure that that animal is set up properly to show its best aspects to the judge and make sure that kid stays involved.”
This year’s show will feature numerous breed classes, with increased prize money, including a grand champion prize of $1,000. It’s open to all exhibitors ages 21 and under.
The show will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
