The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will host Dike-New Hartford in a North Iowa Cedar League-Central doubleheader Tuesday, which will air on 99 The Wave.

The Falcon girls (4-2, 1-1 NICL-C) will look to bounce back from Friday’s 51-45 loss at #10 (2A) Hudson, where they shot 1/16 from three-point range. Head Coach Brady Driscol looks for a significant response to last week’s frustrating loss.

“It doesn’t get any easier,” Driscol says. “Dike-New Hartford, obviously, they’ve been putting it to teams. I know they won big over Columbus and then we have South Hardin. They’ve been putting up a lot of points. And they were a young crew last year and get a lot back. So it’s going to have to be one game at a time. And just regroup. Forget about this one real quick. And you’ve got to finish this half before break strong.”

Dike-New Hartford (3-2, 1-1 NICL-C) is coming off a 67-25 win over Columbus Catholic Friday, where three players scored in double figures to cruise to the win. Izzy Norton scored 18 and leads the team with 13.4 points per game.

The Dike-New Hartford boys (2-3, 1-1 NICL-C) defeated Columbus Catholic 52-41 Friday, where they jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and hovered around that margin for the rest of the game. Head Coach Alex Tagtow says senior Colin Meester has been a key contributor, leading the Central with 20.4 points and 5.4 assists per game.

“He’s maybe even doing more for us than those numbers show, which maybe is hard to believe because they show an awful lot,” Tagtow says. “But he’s been great. He’s been efficient. He’s got the ball in his hands all the time. But it’s not just that. He’s rebounded really well. He’s defended really well. He’s done a good job of getting other guys involved. He’s been really great for us. And to be really honest with you, not a surprise. I think we expected that he was gonna be great. And I think it’s just gonna continue as we keep going.”

The Falcon boys (5-0, 2-0 NICL-C) are coming off a historic 67-18 win at Hudson Friday, which was the fewest points allowed in a game in program history. AP has jumped out to Central leads in rebounds per game, steals per game and point differential.

Pregame coverage will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:15.
