Christmas came early at the Strand-Voelker house this year.

We had to say good bye to our cat a few months ago.  We knew we wanted to rescue another cat, but wanted to take our time with grieving the loss of Loaf.  My husband Ethan is a cat guy, and had given me the ok to adopt a bonded couple if I felt connected to them.  Well, last Sunday, I had my mom come with me to the Greenbelt Humane Society in Iowa Falls.  My heart broke for all the nice cats waiting for a new home.  There were so many friendly and cute cats, but it was a bonded pair that stole my heart.  A 16.5 pound orange and white big boy, we named Casserole, and Betty, a 9 pound gray tabby.  Right away, I knew they would be a great fit.  We still have our labradoodle Cowboy, who, I suspect, got used to being an only child.  Right now, we have the cats in the spare room, as they get acclimated to their new home.  Next step will have the cats explore the rest of the house while Cowboy is outside.  Experts say to give new pets 3 days to feel safe enough to eat and relax, 3 weeks to figure out their new routine, and 3 months to be fully acclimated.  I will go into the spare room to spend time with the cats while Cowboy whines outside the door.  I believe he will have the hardest time with the new adjustment.  But he is a sweet boy, and will allow the cats to be in  charge.

If you are interested in hearing more about my rescues, I will keep posting with new updates.
