The #14 (2A) Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys wrestling team will host #5 (2A) Humboldt and St. Edmond for a North Central Conference triangular Thursday.
The Bulldogs (3-2) are coming off a 1-1 outing at last week’s triangular hosted by #17 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, where they lost to the Cowboys and defeated Webster City. With five underclassmen in the varsity lineup, Head Coach Patrick Hansen says their continued development will help the team get to the next level. Hansen was especially proud of freshman Luke Showalter’s performance against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
“The Hartwig kids is a two-time state qualifier,” Hansen says. “For him to go out and beat that kid like that, I mean, manhandled him. You know, that’s just what we need. Our young guys are gonna get better. We are gonna be a different team come end of January. We always are. And I’m ready for it. I’m ready to get going.”
Humboldt is 0-1 in duals, having lost 39-24 to #2 (2A) Algona last week. The Wildcats have six ranked wrestlers, as of the latest IAwrestle rankings.
St. Edmond is 0-2 in duals, with just eight wrestlers on the roster.
Action will begin at 6:00 p.m.
