The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams finished 2024 on a high note by sweeping South Hardin at home Thursday. The girls won 57-47 and the boys won 68-45.

In the girls game, the Falcons had trouble making shots early, falling behind 12-5 and 14-7 after the first quarter. But they scored 20 points in the second quarter to take control. After the Tigers pulled to within four in the fourth quarter, AP extended their lead to as many as 14 to seal the win. The Falcons (6-2) were led by Kolbie Wangsness with 14 points, and Ava Eddy added 13. South Hardin (2-5) was led by Ayda Eller with 17 points; Grace Eller and Alli Sheldahl each scored 10.

In the boys game, the Falcons brought energy from the opening tip, racing to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. AP outscored the Tigers in each period, finishing off a wire-to-wire victory in style without the result being too far in question. Benny Waller led the Falcons (7-0) with 17 points and Mason Ridder added 13. Preston Dolash led South Hardin (3-3) with 13 points.

The Falcons are off for the Christmas break. The Tigers will host AGWSR Friday in their final action of 2024.
