A 28-year-old Rockwell man is alleged to have committed fraud multiple times at grocery store self-checkout stations.
The state claims Blake Braun would allegedly take groceries to a self-checkout station, but instead of scanning the groceries, he would mostly scan a barcode in his hand for a product worth only 36 cents.
Braun did this a total of 36 times between the two Hy-Vee grocery stores in Mason City, causing a loss of over 35-hundred dollars.
Braun has been charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a class “B” felony, and for two counts of 2nd degree theft, each a class “D” felony.
If convicted on all three charges, he could be sentenced for up to 35 years in prison.
