The #13 (3A) Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team has reached the Christmas break undefeated. At 8-0 and 4-0 in the North Central Conference, Head Coach Miranda Stafford says the team has won in a variety of ways in different environments.
“We’re sitting in a good spot, where we wanted to be,” Stafford says. “We’ve got some huge conference games right out of break. Happy with where we’re at, happy with how the girls have been getting wins in different ways, having to focus and come up with close ones. I though our St. Edmond game was a hard one, coming off a big battle of conference opponents at Humboldt and going into St. Edmond, where they always play hard. To come away with a win there is always a big deal. I’m happy with the way the girls are playing right now, and we’re going to continue to clean up some things and work hard.”
A cohesive unit has been led by Lily Hambly’s 11.5 points per game and a league-leading 11.2 rebounds per game. Jordan Valley leads the league in both assists and steals per game.
After playing six of eight away from home to begin the season, the Bulldogs will play five straight home games to begin January. They’ll return to action by hosting North Butler on Monday, January 6.
