The Clarksville girls basketball team were road warriors in the 2024 half of their season playing five of their seven games away from home floor, as they went 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Iowa Star North entering the break.

The Indians only losses were to #4(1A)Riceville and Dunkerton.

Head Coach Ross Timmermans on what the team learned from playing the Wildcats and Raiders.

“We knew it was going to be a test to figure out where we were at. We played with both teams at different times throughout each individual game. We know that we can play with them,” says Timmermans. “We know what we need to do next time we see them. We’ll get them at home next time. We need to just play hard like these girls do and compete.”

Clarksville ranks second in the Iowa Star North in scoring with 53.7 points, points allowed with 39 points and steals with 14.3 per game.

Timmermans on overall takeaways from the opening stretch.

“I am very pleased with what we’ve been able to accomplish record-wise. I’m even more pleased with what we’ve been able to accomplish as a team. This team’s got great chemistry. The girls genuinely like each other. They spend a lot of extra time together outside of basketball practice and games. Parents are stepping up and hosting team meals. It’s just been a very pleasant experience this first part of the season.”

Paige Kampman has paced scoring with 22.3 points per game (leads Iowa Star North), shooting at a 39.2 percent from the field. Hannah Wangsness has controlled the boards with 11 rebounds (leads Iowa Star North) and adds eight points per game, to help lead the Indians.

Timmermans on increasing balance and scoring in the second half.

“We need to have a couple girls step up and take a little bit of weight off Paige’s shoulders, putting the ball in the basket. We’re getting the shots that we want, they’re just not falling. I think that as girls continue to get more confident throughout the rest of the season, we’re all hoping that those shots start to fall. We want to be considered one of the better teams. We’ve got to make more shots, that’s going to be our focus going into 2025.”

Clarksville will open the 2025 half of their schedule at BCLUW in a cross-conference matchup on Tuesday, January 7.
