Cadet Boys Hoops riding strong start into 2025

The Iowa Falls-Alden boys basketball team has raced out to a 4-2 start to the season, including a 2-0 North Central Conference record. Having won in a variety of ways, they’ll enter 2025 on a three-game win streak.

With numerous veteran contributors, Head Coach Mike Holm says a strong culture has set the foundation.

“They’ve been very coachable and very ready to do whatever we ask them to do, so that’s really helped,” Holm says. “They understand that it’s a team game, that we’re not gonna be able to throw one kid out there and ride his coattails to get wins. It’s gonna take all of us. And they’re really buying into that right now. And they’re appreciating each other, and as players and as people. And when you buy into that, you can get a lot of things accomplished.”

Senior Kale Kalous leads the team and is second in the conference with 22.8 points per game. Three other senior starters, Calvin Hutchinson, Carter DeBates and Carson Allen, have made significant contributions both on and off the court, according to Holm.

“All four of them have really stepped up their game and taken on roles as we are leaning on them to lead the way, but they’ve also taken on the role as being leaders. They’ve kind of taken our sophomore kids under their wings a little bit and kind of guiding them and showing them and showing our younger players what it takes to have some success. So I’m really happy with our senior leadership, they’ve done a great job of knowing their roles and getting in the game and just kind of doing their thing and helping the team wherever they can, whether it’s in the game or in practice or whatever they need to do.”

The Cadets will return to action Friday by hosting West Fork on 104.9 KLMJ.
