The Iowa Department of Natural Resources encourages residents to participate in “First Day Hikes” on New Year’s Day at several state parks. Park staff will offer guided hikes, or will provide suggestions for self-guided hikes to allow visitors to experience the spectacular views, beautiful settings and the cultural treasures offered by Iowa’s state parks and forests.
State parks in the surrounding areas of Parkersburg and Hampton which will offer these hikes include:
- Pine Lake State Park near Eldora
- George Wyth State Park in Waterloo
- Union Grove State Park near Gladbrook
