The high school basketball season will resume Friday when Dike-New Hartford travels to AGWSR for a North Iowa Cedar League crossover doubleheader.

The boys game will be a battle of teams that are looking to find their stride as January begins. The Wolverines (3-2, 2-2 NICL-C) will look to capitalize in close game situations, according to Head Coach Alex Tagtow. Each loss has been decided by either one or two possessions.

“Situations is one thing, and getting there and executing them and putting teams away or things like that is a whole different thing that we’ve got to kind of be focused on and get cleaned up,” Tagtow says. “And outside of that, it’s getting everybody healthy. We’ve got a couple of guys that we haven’t had yet this year with some football injuries that I think we’re going to be getting back here over break and coming up in January. So kind of figuring out how those pieces fit together and going from there.”

Colin Meester continues to lead the Central with 20.7 points and five assists per game.

AGWSR (0-5, 0-2 NICL-W) will look to compete closer with opponents, with the closest margin being 13 points. Head Coach Ryley Schipper says junior Bo Starr has the potential to take the next step in leading the team to wins.

“Bo is averaging right around that 11-12 mark, but I think he can be an 18-19 guy a night,” Schipper says. “And some of that for him is finishing at the rim, getting opportunities closer to the rim. Sometimes he settles, but I think he’s got this gravitational pull to him. With other teams, they know he’s going to be the guy that probably gets a good majority of our shots. And we’ve talked to him about setting guys up. So for him, it’s not only getting his scoring up, but stepping his assists up.”

Starr leads the team with 10.4 points and 1.2 assists per game.

In the girls game, the Wolverines (3-4, 1-3 NICL-C) will look to snap a two-game losing streak. AGWSR (6-2, 2-1 NICL-W) has won two straight, with the only losses happening against ranked teams in December.

The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
