The West Fork girls and boys basketball teams will travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for a non-conference doubleheader as both teams will look to spark the 2025 half of season Friday on 104.9 KLMJ.
West Fork girls (5-2) enter as winners of four of their last five, in which their only loss was 46-45 to #12 (1A) Saint Ansgar on December 20. The Warhawks make opponents work to get into offensive rhythm with 15 steals per game. Nehir Kanat is averaging 8.9 points and Karma McMorris adds 6.7 points per game.
Iowa Falls-Alden girls (5-2) has won three straight, including a 45-39 conference win over St.Edmond on December 19. The Cadets shouldn’t be overlooked from three point range, knocking down triples at 33.1 percent. The Cadets’ double figure scorers include Elody England and Joslin Johnson, with 11 points per game each.
IFA Head Coach Michael Collison on continuing to raise the team’s ceiling in 2025.
“We need to be a team that gets better. I believe you get better or you get worse, you never stay the same. There’s gonna be a lot of teams that have records like us that go into the break and they don’t change things, they don’t improve things. They’re satisfied where they’re at and then they end up having a bad second half of the season,” says Collison. “We open up 2025 with some really good teams. West Fork’s, a really good team that’s winning a lot right now. We’re gonna have to play better than we played to wrap up 2024 to compete. I’m excited for the challenge and for our girls to come back and see what we can do.”
West Fork boys (3-2) has won two of their last three including a 70-58 conference win at Saint Ansgar on December 20. The Warhawks distribute the ball effectively with 13 assists per game. Ashyr Wiseman leads with 19 points per game.
Head Coach Abe Maske on improving post play.
“We’ve got a lot of tough games. Getting focused and staying focused as we continue through. We’re a good team and we’re going to be a tough matchup, I think, across the board,” says Maske. “One area that we’re going to improve in and really start getting to be a little bit more involved in what we do offensively, is going to be our post-play. Knowing that we need to get them involved, whether it’s scoring, whether it’s just taking some pressure off of our guards. We’re going to continue to work on that and continue to grow defensively. We’re chopping at the bit to get started again.”
Iowa Falls-Alden boys (4-2) has won three straight including a thrilling 68-64 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in conference on December 19. The Cadets also share the ball well with 11.7 assists per game. Kale Kalous has been on a roll with 22.8 points per game.
