Belmond-Klemme Boys Basketball Wins Thriller, Girls Fall to Undefeated #4(3A)Forest City on Friday

The Belmond-Klemme boys basketball team handed first place Forest City their first Top of Iowa Conference West loss and earned their first win over the Indians since 2014. The #4(3A)Forest City girls pulled away from the Broncos in the fourth quarter to remain undefeated on Friday night. The Bronco boys won 62-61 and the Forest City girls won 52-32. 

In the boys game, B-K sprinted out to an early advantage at 19-8 following the first quarter. In a more competitive second quarter, Forest City trimmed the Broncos advantage to seven points at 32-25 heading into the half. In a back and forth third quarter, the Broncos increased their lead back to double digits at 50-40 heading the fourth. B-K led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter and held a 60-50 lead over the Indians with 2:38 to go. Forest City stormed back with an 11-1 scoring run to tie the game at 61 with 47.9 seconds left. The Broncos got the go ahead bucket on a Kysen Lamb free throw with 2.4 seconds left to hang on for the upset.

The Broncos defense stepped to force 22 Indians turnovers including 15 steals. Balanced scoring helped propel the offense as four players finished in double figures including Juan Medina with 18, Kysen Lamb with 16, Brody Heifner with 14 and Coewhan Kelly with 10 points. 

In the girls game, the Broncos stayed within striking distance in a low scoring first half, as the Indians held slim advantages at 11-7 at the end of the first and 17-12 entering halftime. The Indians picked up their on ball pressure in the third quarter to build their first double digit lead of the night at 34-24 entering the fourth. Forest City was able to pull away in the fourth with a 18-8 scoring run to protect their perfect record.

Adasyn Lamb had 15 points and Shaylee Aguilera had seven points to lead the Broncos.

The Belmond-Klemme girls (4-4, 2-4 TIC-West) and boys (5-3, 3-3 in TIC-West) will host West Hancock on Tuesday.
