The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team (1-5, 0-4 in North Central Conference) will be putting in the miles to begin and end the first full week of 2025, as the Cowboys will play four games.

C-G-D Head Coach Jason Berning on making the most of a busy week to grow as a team.

“We’ve got to be coachable, we’ve got to adjust on the fly, and every opponent brings a little different challenge. As we start this next week with four games, we just have to try to focus on ourselves, doing the things that we feel like we need to do to be successful,” says Berning. “There’s moments where we know we have to get better. Every night is an opportunity to get better.”

Chaz Lane has helped fuel the Cowboys with 16.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. JD Morrical has also produced in double figures with 12 points and is the team leader in assists with four per game.

Berning on areas that need to work to further the team’s progress forward.

“We just need to try to find our way and again, to find the best way we can to keep getting our scores in the best position for them to score the ball and keep improving individually for everybody on our team. Working a little bit on a secondary defense. Locking down just minor details and getting better with some fundamentals. We have lots to work on and that’s kind of why you do it, steady progress.”

C-G-D will play at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura (4-4) on Monday, at Algona (2-4) on Tuesday, host Webster City (3-4) on Friday and take a long road trip to Estherville-Lincoln Central (2-6) on Saturday.
