Each AGWSR winter sports team will be in action Tuesday. The basketball teams will host North Tama for a non-conference doubleheader, and the wrestling teams will compete at North Tama.
The boys basketball team (0-6) will be in search of their first win, having been defeated 64-38 by Dike-New Hartford Friday to begin 2025. Head Coach Ryley Schipper says it’s the start of a busy stretch of games, including three this week.
“North Tama, BCLUW, Jesup all in the same week, it’s getting to that time of the year where three games a week is gonna become the norm,” Schipper says. “I think through January to the beginning of February, you’ve got 16 games in four weeks, and hopefully the weather stays away. All those games are games I think we can be in. But like I said, we’ve got to execute. We’ve got to focus on ourselves to be good before we can really focus on what we’re gonna do with those other teams. Our focus right now is on us making sure that we’re the best version of ourselves. And we talk about every single night, control the controlables, our attitude and our effort. And so far, I think those have been good, and hopefully that’s going to lead to more points on the board and some wins in the win column.”
North Tama has a dangerous scoring lineup, led by 17.3 points per game by Josh Dostal and 15.6 by Kayler Morris.
The Cougar girls (7-2) will look to extend a three-game win streak, coming off a 43-33 win over Dike-New Hartford where they erased a six-point halftime deficit.
The boys wrestling team will compete in a non-conference triangular against North Tama and Oelwein. The girls wrestling team will compete in a single dual with the hosts.
Each event will start at 6:15 p.m.
