Member of the Parkersburg City Council arrested

A member of the Parkersburg City Council turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning following an altercation Monday night. 

58-year-old Jim Bellows was arrested and charged with interference with official acts and with assault-general. Butler County Sheriff Jason Johnson tells RadioOnTheGo News that “He (Bellows) turned himself in on Tuesday morning. We (the Sheriff’s Department) still consider it an arrest.”

The criminal complaint was filed against Bellows by the Parkersburg Police Department, and Johnson adds that Bellows is “alleged to have assaulted a businessman from Parkersburg” after Monday night’s city council meeting at the civic center.

Bellows has been released from custody, with an appearance in Butler County Magistrate Court set for March 4th.  Both charges are considered to be simple misdemeanors, and are punishable by up to 30 days in jail on each count.
