H-D-CAL Wrestling Meets Iowa Falls-Alden in Battle for Bradford on the Mat on Thursday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls and boys wrestling teams will visit Iowa Falls-Alden for a pair of Battle for Bradford duals on the first Throwdown Thursday of 2025 on 104.9 KLMJ.

The #19(3A)H-D-CAL boys (6-4) went 2-1 at Independence dual tournament on Saturday with wins over #17(2A)Anamosa and East Buchanan, and fell to #6(2A)Independence. 

Bulldog Senior Wrestler Taylor Mahler on the importance of every wrestler always being ready to go.

“We just got to keep grinding in the room, every one of us. Even if you’re like the second, third guy, you got to be ready because we might have to throw you out there against some really good kid. Your job’s not to get pinned and limit it to a decision or technical fall to save the team points,” says Mahler. “Then you got me, Charlie Showalter, or Colin Bird, all them guys that got to go out there and go get a pin, get a tech fall.”

The Bulldogs are led by Charlie Showalter who is 18-1 between time at 132 and 138, Taylor Mahler who is 15-3 at 157 and Colin Bird who is 16-4 at 165.

The Iowa Falls-Alden boys (7-2) placed 13th at Osage tournament on Saturday with four medalists including Kolbe Hansen (3rd at 113), Zane Gillespie (5th at 106), Keaton Mulford (6th at 150) and Trevor Bailey (7th at 190).  

IFA Head Coach Scott Patton on an opportunity to take the next step towards end of season goals.

“We’re gonna see where we’re at. It’s another step for us towards the bigger goals at the end of the season,” says Patton. “We’ve got some guys with good records, but like I told our team, the competition is only gonna get tougher from here on out, so we’re gonna see what we’re really made of.”

The Cadets are led by Zane Gillespie who is 13-5 at 106, Kolbe Hansen who is 13-5 at 113 and Trevor Bailey who is 11-6 at 190.

The H-D-CAL girls (5-4) went 2-1 at AP-GC dual tournament with wins over Columbus Catholic (48-6) and North Butler-Clarksville (37-36) and lost AP-GC (48-15) on Tuesday. Maren Subbert who is 15-0 at 190, Juliette Koch who is 12-4 at 140 and Elsie Kuper who is 12-5 at 170.

The Iowa Falls-Alden girls (3-6) will take the mat for the first time in 2025. The Cadets are led by Ivy Sanders who is 13-8 at 120 and Brooklyn Gehling at 130. 

Coverage on 104.9 KLMJ begins at 7:20 p.m. followed by the start of the girls dual at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls.
