The Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball team had one of its better shooting performances in Saturday’s 79-44 win at New Hampton, as aired on 99 The Wave.

Each team connected on several three-pointers throughout the first quarter, including five by New Hampton. The Falcons found a spark late in the half for a 43-28 halftime lead, and it never got closer. AP kept up their scoring pace, and held the Chickasaws to just 16 points in the second half, putting the running clock rule in effect in the fourth quarter.

“After the first quarter, I wasn’t sure what to expect,” Head Coach Brady Driscol says. “Because they came out, they’re a pretty good three point shooting team as well. I think the first quarter, all they hit was threes. I think they had 15 points and five threes. So luckily, Eva, especially early on, got us going with some threes. And then Ava, when Eva came out, Ava stepped in and made some threes. So it was a really good team effort too. 12 threes, and I don’t know if anybody had more than four. But you know, group effort, everyone out there can pretty much shoot it. So especially after that first quarter, defensively we locked up a little bit and played pretty well.”

Five players scored in double figures, led by Eva Walker’s career-high 20 points. She and Ava Eddy each hit four three-pointers. Eddy and Kolbie Wangsness scored 13, Peyton Klooster had 12 and Megan Bruns had a career-high 10 points. The team was 12/28 from three-point range, and shot 51 percent overall.

AP will return to action Tuesday at #7 (2A) Denver on 99 The Wave.
