The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team will take on West Fork for the first time since 2014 in a non-conference meeting on Monday in Clarion. West Fork won the last meeting 73-38 in 2014.
C-G-D (3-7) enters as winners of two in a row including a 57-56 win at home over Webster City on Friday and a 51-47 win at Estherville-Lincoln Central on Saturday. The Cowboys in their back to back wins have got to the offensive boards with 16 against the Lynx and 12 against ELC, and were balanced scoring with three double figure scorers. Chaz Lane is the leading scorer and rebounder with 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Cowboys Head Coach Jason Berning on what the Warhawks bring to the table and striving to play their best.
“A new challenge for us. We haven’t played them at the varsity level in a while. They’re very established program in our area, always have very strong teams,” says Berning. “Again, it’s going to be another night we feel that we’re very similar to them. We just have got to come and give it our best and try to continue to work on the things that we got to get better at.”
West Fork (3-6) will look to halt a four game slide to begin the new year, including a 71-61 loss at home to Nashua-Plainfield on Friday. The Warhawks will look to overcome recent cold shooting stretches with balanced production through 11.7 assists per game. Ashyr Wisman leads with 16.6 points per game. Xavier Baptiste is the team’s top rebounder with 7.4 per game.
Warhawks Head Coach Abe Maske on sparking momentum and gaining experience through meeting with the Cowboys.
“A competitive game that I think is going to be good for us. It’s another chance for us to get a little more experience. Then see if we can’t gain some momentum as we go through the week to start the second round of our conference play the following week,” says Maske. “Then start getting our shots to drop and start taking maybe some more quality shots. I like our chances with Clarion. It is an away game, so obviously they’ll be tough at home.”
Action begins at 7:30 p.m. in Clarion.
