The Iowa Falls-Alden basketball teams will play non-conference road games in separate locations Monday. The boys will be at South Hardin and the girls will be at Ogden.
Coming off consecutive North Central Conference losses, the Cadet boys (6-4) will look to snap a three-game series losing streak to the Tigers. Head Coach Mike Holm says his team has the ability to get back on track with a veteran team, evidenced by its late-game heroics in last week’s overtime game against Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
“Our kids play kind of loose and free, and I don’t mind that,” Holm says. “I don’t think they tense up as much in those situations where we just kind of say, okay, let’s just go play. Carson’s shot, he shoots those all the time in practice and he knocks them in. And I felt confident in running that, and it got it to him and he made the shot. So they’re used to those things. They’re seniors. They’ve been around for quite a while now and they kind of know what to expect.”
South Hardin (5-5) will look to win consecutive games for the first time since the first three games of the season. They’re coming off Friday’s 80-50 win over Hudson. Head Coach John Phillips says it’s always a spirited game when the Tigers and Cadets meet.
“Iowa Falls-Alden is having a really good season, and they’ve got a couple of really good shooters we’ll have to contain,” Phillips says. “They don’t have a lot of size, but they use a lot of speed and quickness and three-point shooting, so we’re gonna have to match that intensity, and again we’re gonna have to start on the defensive end of the ball. We always have fun games between Iowa Falls-Alden and South Hardin over the past few years, and I’m expecting nothing less than a tough matchup.”
Action will start at 7:15 p.m.
The Cadet girls (5-6) will look to snap a four-game losing streak and win their first game of January. They’ll have a great opportunity against a 1-10 Ogden team that has lost nine straight. The tipoff will be at 6:00 p.m.
