The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department has been made aware of several citizens in the county receiving phone calls with the caller claiming to be an employee of the sheriff’s department.
The caller is telling the citizen that they have unpaid fines, outstanding arrest warrants, or a need to appear in court to testify.
These phone calls are scams and possibly an attempt to gain personal information from you. Sheriff’s department employees will not make calls of this nature to citizens.
If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department office employee telling you this type of information, end the call and report the incident by calling 641-421-3000.
