The Clarksville girls and boys basketball team will host Iowa Star Conference North neighbor Janesville for a doubleheader on Friday. The Clarksville girls won 52-39 and the Wildcat boys won 62-43 in the first meeting on December 3.

The Clarksville girls (6-4, 4-2 Iowa Star North) lost 49-38 at Iowa Falls-Alden in a non-conference game on Tuesday. The Indians frustrate opponents with pressure forcing 17 steals per game. Paige Kampman sparks the offense with 23 points per game at 40.3 percent from the field. Hannah Wangsness is the top rebounder with 11 per game.

Clarksville Head Coach Ross Timmermans on continuing team progress.

“We’re happy with what they’ve done and we’ve been talking about that. We’re happy with what we’ve accomplished, but we can’t be satisfied because satisfaction is the enemy of progression and we don’t want to take a backseat,” says Timmermans. “I’m really excited about this team and the possibilities moving on into the new year.”

The Janesville girls (7-5, 3-3 Iowa Star North) have won four in a row including a 59-50 win over Tripoli on Tuesday. The Wildcats put in extra effort on the boards with 10 offensive rebounds per game. Liz Hovenga leads with 11.8 points per game at 44.8 percent from the field.

The Clarksville boys (3-8, 2-5 Iowa Star North) won 61-40 over Rockford in conference on Tuesday. The Indians offense produces inside the perimeter 38.3 percent. Sam Hoodjer at 21.9 points and John Staufffer at 14.9 points per game are the Indians double figure scorers.

Clarksville Head Coach Jonah Woodward on key pieces for the Wildcats and the rematch.

“They’re going to be a tough half-court, man-to-man defense. Offensively, they’re going to run a bunch of sets, but they’re going to have very balanced scoring,” says Woodward. “A kid that’s been very impressive for the Wildcats is Talan Pletz. What people don’t understand about Talan is what he does on the defense end has been phenomenal and it gets them going. They have other challenges in Isaac Jones and Gabe Meany. We’re really looking forward to it because it was a very competitive game the first time around.”

The Janesville boys (9-2, 6-1 Iowa Star North) has won three straight including a 80-39 win over Tripoli on Tuesday. All five players on the floor have had their hand in offensive success with 14.5 assists per game. Talan Pletz leads with 20.6 points per game at 52.4 percent from the field.

Action begins at 6:30 p.m. in Clarksville.
