The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will continue NICL-Central action Friday by hosting Columbus Catholic for a doubleheader.
The Falcon girls (9-3, 2-2 NICL-C) are coming off Tuesday’s 55-53 loss at #7 (2A) Denver, where a cold stretch in the fourth quarter was the difference. Head Coach Brady Driscol says it’ll be a good opportunity for a bounce-back.
“We beat them at their place,” Driscol says. “Good to be back home finally, and you know it’d be the time to maybe work on some new things against that opponent. The O’Brien kick can go off at any certain point, either one of them really from three. Very active on defense and they had another kid come along here in the in the last few games I think too that’s been knocking down some shots for them. So we’ll give a look at what they look like and try to avenge this one against Denver and get back in the win column.”
Columbus (1-9, 0-4 NICL-C) has lost three straight and has been beaten by an average of 18 points. AP won 55-14 when the teams met in December.
The Falcon boys (9-1, 4-0 NICL-C) enter with the momentum of Tuesday’s 73-60 win at Denver, where they took the Central lead outright. On the first night of a back-to-back, they’ll take on a Sailor team that has been somewhat competitive, but fell 46-41 Tuesday to a previously winless Hudson team. The Falcons responded to an early deficit with a 59-52 win over the Sailors in December.
The tipoff will be at 6:15 p.m.
