The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball teams will return to action Tuesday at Webster City to begin the second half of the North Central Conference season on 104.9 KLMJ. It’ll be the first rematches of the season.
The #12 (3A) Bulldog girls (12-1, 5-1 NCC) will look to keep pace in the standings, currently in second place. While the team has been mostly crisp throughout the season, Head Coach Miranda Stafford expects to see some differences in the second time through the conference.
“Anybody in the North Central Conference, you’ve got to be ready to play,” Stafford says. “If you take a night off, they’re going to get you. So we’ve got to take one game at a time, especially when you’re now going around the backside. Everybody has seen everybody once. They will make adjustments to the first time that we played them. They will be a different team. They just played a real good game against Nevada and was able to get a win against a good, hard-working, athletic Nevada team. So they’re improving every game. So we have to be ready to go. Webster City is a hard place to play. That court’s a little bigger. So that’s a disadvantage to what we like to do. We like to trap kids in and make things chaotic, and they’ve got more room to work on their court. So we’ve got to make some adjustments, but we’ve got to be ready to go every single game.”
Webster City (2-11, 0-6 NCC) will go for their first conference win. Last week, they defeated Nevada and Southeast Valley on consecutive nights to secure their first two wins after an 0-10 start. Olivia Gallentine leads with 9.5 points per game. The Bulldogs won 58-28 when the teams met in December.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys (3-8, 1-5 NCC) will look to climb the standings, currently in last place after three straight losses. Webster City (3-9, 2-4 NCC) has lost six straight and is winless in January. The Lynx won 50-17 when the teams met in Hampton.
Coverage will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:15.
