The AP/GC girls wrestling team was the runner-up at Tuesday’s Cougar Girls Invitational at Sumner-Fredericksburg. They scored 142 points, just one behind the hosts.
Two wrestlers won the titles of their weight class. Ellie Reints placed first at 130 and Kira Cox was the champion at 170. Reints pinned her way to the title, with all three matches ending in the first period. Cox went 4-0 in a round-robin weight class. She earned four pins, only one of which made it out of the first period.
Grace Storjohann at 120, Kylee Babcock at 125, Caylee Harken at 140 and Zoey Uhlenhopp at 145 each placed second. Storjohann won two first period pins before losing a 6-4 decision in the final. Babcock won by fall in the quarterfinal, won a 9-6 sudden victory in the semifinal, and lost by fall in the final. Harken won a quarterfinal pin and a 7-3 decision in the semifinal before losing by fall in the final. Uhlenhopp won a 4-3 decision in the semifinal after a first round bye, and lost by fall in the final.
It was AP/GC’s final scheduled regular season competition. They’ll return to action at the state qualifying meet at Colfax-Mingo on Friday, January 31.
