Hampton-Dumont-CAL will host Coaches vs Cancer activities on Saturday at the high school. The district is joining forces with West Fork and Franklin County Relay for Life to organize the event.
The events, which will begin at 2:00 p.m., include a silent auction, bucket runs to collect donations, a coloring contest with displays around Hampton, and a dance performance. The district’s ProStart organization will serve food. The basketball teams will take on West Fork, starting with the varsity girls game at 6:00 p.m.
“Every penny raised will go towards the American Cancer Society,” Activities Director Christi Weiser says. “The NCC fights cancer, the North Central Conference celebrating our 100th year this year made this a priority a couple of years ago as well. So Friday night when we’re at Clear Lake, there will be some celebratory things going on there as well, just raising funds for the American Cancer Society. And then Saturday, we’ve got a Chuck-A-Duck donation competition, we’ll do some bucket runs, the silent auction, ProStart, all of the profit from the items they sell, every penny will go towards Franklin County Relay for Life and American Cancer Society. So again, just a great testament to both of our districts and the North Central Conference for making this a priority.”
The coloring contest winners, Honorary Survivor and Honorary Caregiver will be recognized between the varsity games.
Weiser says the event is a collaborative effort between Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork.
“I think it’s a great statement that both districts have made this event a priority, when it hasn’t always been easy. I mean, we have a lot going on that day in our district. Their conference has a whole week of Coaches vs Cancer things, but they’ve made this a priority as well. So it’s great. I very much appreciate it. I’ve had a couple of meetings with Tyler Borchardt, the AD at West Fork, and he’s been fantastic to work with. Just the collaboration, the unification of supporting people going through this. Cancer affects all of us in one way, shape, or form, whether it be you just know someone or you’ve gone through it personally. So I appreciate greatly the work and the collaboration and the intentionality with both districts to make this a priority every year.”
