First Bank Hampton will host its annual ag outlook meeting Friday, January 31st.
One of this year’s guest speakers is Iowa State University Economist Chad Hart, who says a variety of topics will be covered this year including the weather patterns and crop production farmers saw during the 2024 growing season.
“It was a mess of a year. You know, the ideas we saw, the weather extremes, those extremes did have an impact on crop production across not only Iowa, but the rest of the nation. And if you will, that crop continues to surprise us. In fact, as USDA updated their numbers over this current month, they figured out that the corn and soybean crops were quite a bit smaller than they had originally estimated. And that’s provided some, let’s call it breathing room within the markets today. So we’re gonna discuss sort of what happened in ’24, and what’s that mean as we look forward in 2025, not only in terms of producing that crop, but how’s it utilized, what’s that mean in terms of prices and returns to the farmers.”
The other guest speaker is Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig. This year’s annual ag outlook meeting is Friday, January 31st from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the basement of First Bank Hampton. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Monday by calling 641-456-4793.
