AP/GC girls wrestling has completed a regular season of notable strides as a program, and is preparing for Friday’s state qualifying meet.
Among the accomplishments, the team competed in dual meets for the first time after only competing in individual tournaments during the first two seasons of the sport being sanctioned. The team went 11-6 in dual meets, which was jumpstarted by an invitation to compete at the prestigious Battle of Waterloo tournament.
Among the notable wrestlers, #1 (1A-120) Grace Storjohann is 50-2 on the season. Fellow returning state qualifier Zoey Uhlenhopp is 34-14 at 145, Kira Cox is 35-11 at 190, and Caylee Harken is 33-17 at 155.
“The girls have done a great job all year, showing what they’re learning in the wrestling room and bringing that to their competitions and doing really well in that aspect,” Head Coach Joel Reints says. “We’re getting everybody rolling here, kind of clicking at the right time of year. And regionals is right around the corner. So we’re hoping to have our best performance yet on regional day.”
The Falcons will be at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Colfax-Mingo Friday, with coverage airing on 99 The Wave.
