Dike-New Hartford senior Colin Meester recently became the newest member of the boys basketball program’s 1,000-point club. He was recognized for the accomplishment before the tipoff of Friday’s game against Aplington-Parkersburg.
“He’s meant so much to us in my three years here,” Head Coach Alex Tagtow says. “He has started every game that I’ve coached at DNH. He’s been the point guard in every game. He just does so much and he understands the game so well. We put just a tremendous amount on him every game because we know he can handle it and we know he’s going to bring everybody along with him. It’s no secret what we’re doing. Everything is through number 10. He’s initiating. We’re running stuff for him. He’s our second leading rebounder, he leads us in assists. It’s just thing after thing after thing, not to mention all he’s doing defensively. He’s guarding the other team’s best player at times. He’s getting us organized. He’s a tremendous player.”
Meester is the fourth player in program history to reach the milestone, and is third on the career leaderboard with 1,029 points. He’s started regularly for three seasons, and was a regular rotation player during his freshman season.
“I could talk all night about how much he means to us, but probably the best thing about Colin is how good of a teammate he is, how good of a kid he is off the court. He’s such a leader in everything he does. Quarterback on the football team, middle infielder on the baseball team. That’s just his personality. The guys are gonna follow him. He’s gonna always do the right thing. Just a great kid. Wish I could have him for three more years, but really proud of everything that he’s done. When we’re done here in a month or so, he’s going to have a couple more records that he’ll be right around or breaking. So excited to keep celebrating him.”
Throughout his career, he has appeared in every varsity game.
The Wolverines will be back in action Tuesday by hosting Hudson.
