The Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball team is in a three-game stretch that Coach Brady Driscol views as a crucial point in the season. With the next two games being against ranked teams, it’ll serve not only as a clear measuring stick, but also could determine the team’s postseason fate with the pending release of brackets in the first week of February.
Driscol says after Tuesday’s loss to Jesup, he looks forward to getting back home to take on #9 (1A) Gladbrook-Reinbeck Friday in NICL crossover action.
“They’re a good team, two really good players for them, back on our home floor which helps us a lot,” Driscol says. “Another good opportunity in front of us, another ranked team coming in, one that we want to get. We had a close one with them last year and we talked about before this game even, we’re at a three-game stretch here of not going to be any blowouts one way or the other, as much as we’d want it to be our way, but it’s just not going to be that way. It’s going to be close games one way or the other, so little things will make all the difference in the world, and we’ll try to correct it on Friday.”
After Friday’s game, the Falcons will remain at home Tuesday to take on #7 (2A) Denver, which is still undefeated in NICL-Central play. Denver’s only loss so far was to Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday, January 24.
The games will start at 6:15 p.m. inside the AP gym.
