Falcon Hoops taking on Gladbrook-Reinbeck in critical crossover

The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will host Gladbrook-Reinbeck for an NICL crossover doubleheader Friday, with an opportunity to solidify postseason seeding.

The Falcon boys (14-1, 7-0 NICL-C) will go for a mild upset against the #6 (1A) Rebels. AP has built momentum, extending a win streak to seven games with Tuesday’s 71-56 win at Jesup. Head Coach Aaron Thomas says it’s a major opportunity against a quality opponent.

“It’s going to be a huge game for seeding,” Thomas says. “If we can get that one, get to 15-1, and then obviously not out of the woods with Denver the next week, and then I think seeding will be out before we play Wapsie on that Thursday. So we’ve got two games left. We need to have two great days of preparation to get ourselves ready to go against a very good GR team. Fortunately, we’ve been beating them at our place. They’ve beat us at their place, and the bad part is we’ve played there more than we’ve played at home, but should be fun. We need a huge crowd Friday night, to help the guys out, and we’re going to put in the work and get ourselves ready to go.”

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (14-2, 5-2 NICL-W) has won five straight, all in blowout fashion, including 76-22 over BCLUW Tuesday. They’ve played crisp offensively, averaging fewer than 10 turnovers per game.

The Falcon girls (11-5, 4-3 NICL-C) will go for a bounce back after Tuesday’s 42-41 loss at Jesup, where a 2/11 free throw performance was among the major factors.

#7 (1A) Gladbrook-Reinbeck (14-2, 6-1 NICL-W) will look to extend a nine-game win streak, which included a 49-45 upset of #9 (2A) Denver last week.

The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
