The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball teams will host St. Edmond for a North Central Conference doubleheader and will celebrate Senior Night Friday.
It’ll be a tall task for the Bulldog boys (3-12, 1-8 NCC) against the #8 (1A) Gaels. Hampton-Dumont-CAL will look to snap a seven-game losing streak, though hung close in a 62-59 loss to Humboldt Tuesday.
“That’s a team, in the first half, I think we were down four,” Head Coach Brian Niesen says. “They’re really solid. The reason they’re really good is they’re really good at making the fundamental plays. They’re a low turnover team. They play smart on defense. That’s a team I feel like we can match up pretty good with, especially on the defensive end. Hunter Horn’s really good, but I feel like with our bigs, we can contest and make things tough on him. I feel like that’s a game where we have to play well to win, but I feel like our kids, our style of play versus their style, if we play up to our potential, I think that’s one we can definitely hang around and make it a four-quarter game if we play the right way.”
St. Edmond (13-2, 8-2 NCC) has won seven straight, including 82-61 over Algona Tuesday, where Hunter Horn scored 33 points and the team shot 55 percent. The Gaels won 65-35 when the teams met earlier this season.
The #12 (3A) Bulldog girls (16-1, 8-1 NCC) will look to extend a six-game win streak and remain within striking distance of the conference title. Last time out, they overcame a 28 percent shooting performance to beat Humboldt 41-37 Tuesday. With stifling defense, the Bulldogs have won four straight games while scoring 45 or fewer points. St. Edmond (5-9, 1-6 NCC) lost 64-58 to #8 (3A) Algona Tuesday, led by Chloe Palmer’s 27 points.
The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
