bk-2

The Belmond-Klemme girls and boys basketball teams each won back to back games to close out action last week. The Bronco girls won 55-41 over AGWSR on Thursday and 66-35 at North Iowa on Friday. The Bronco boys won 60-41 over AGWSR on Thursday and won 76-72 in overtime at North Iowa on Friday.

The B-K girls two straight wins helped them get back on track after back to back losses. The Broncos held both opponents to under 45 points, for the sixth and seventh time they’ve accomplished that this season. The Broncos also got their offense rolling scoring above their season average of 49 points per game in both matchups.

B-K Head Coach James Severson on applying momentum of back to back wins after full team effort delivered them.

“It’s not anything to shy away from and we hope they keep coming here in the short time that we have got left in the regular season. We know we’re gonna face some pretty tough opponents next week but we’ll take that momentum going into it for sure,” says Severson. “Everyone contributed and our bench really helped a lot. It’s one of those things where just a lot of things are going well and we capitalized on it. It was a really good night for our girls and I’m really proud of them.”

The Broncos were paced by Adasyn Lamb with 24 points against the Cougars and 17 points against the Bison.

The B-K boys with back to back wins, have now won four of their last five games, with the exception being a 59-52 loss to North Union on January 28. The Broncos defense has set the table for offense to go out and take the lead and keep it, by holding three of four opponents to under 55 points. The Broncos defense made timely stands in three of the games that were decided by single digits.

Broncos Head Coach Justin Meyer on how the team is preparing for single digits games down to the wire.

“Ultimately I think it’s going to pay dividends. We do some end of game situations at practice every once in a while. I’ve got them down on a note card, rather than just going online and finding them,” says Meyer. “We practice some game situations that we’ve been in? And right now I think I’ve got nine or 10 different note cards going from different games this year. Again, as a coach, it gives us some really good ammunition on things that we can work on, real life examples, basketball examples, that we can work on to perfect into the future.”

Brody Heifner led the Broncos with 25 points against the Cougars. Kysen Lamb led the team with 32 points against the Bison.

The Belmond-Klemme girls (9-8, 5-8 TIC-West) and the Bronco boys (11-8, 8-6 TIC-West) will travel to West Hancock on Tuesday.
