The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team will look to halt a four game slide, as they host Algona in a North Central Conference rematch on Monday. The Bulldogs won the first meeting 58-52 on January 7.
C-G-D (6-12, 2-9 NCC) lost in a competitive rematch 74-70 to Iowa Falls-Alden in conference on Friday. During the Cowboys four game slide, three of the games were decided by single digits. The Cowboys earn extra scoring chances with 10.7 offensive rebounds per game. Chaz Lane leads the team with 17 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Johnny Lomeli adds nine points per game and knocks down the three ball at 35.3 percent.
Cowboys Head Coach Jason Berning on continuing to build in every area of the game.
“We know we’re going to be in it, but we know we’ve got to play good basketball, as we approach February, at the end of the season and with the postseason on the horizon,” says Berning. “We just want to keep building in every single way and see where it puts us as we get into the postseason time of year.”
Algona (6-11, 3-6 NCC) has lost three straight games including a 65-62 non-conference loss to Mason City on Saturday. The Bulldogs keep their offense moving with 10 assists per game. Ben Helmers leads with 25.6 points per game at 51.7 percent shooting from the field.
