Falcon Basketball splits NICL-Central finale with Denver

The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams earned a home split with Denver in the final NICL-Central games of the season Tuesday. The girls fell to the #9 (2A) Cyclones 55-23 and the #9 (2A) boys won 68-56 to clinch the outright division title.

In the girls game, the teams played a competitive first quarter. But the Falcons went cold for the final three periods, scoring three each in the second and fourth quarters, and seven in the third quarter. The Cyclones racked up 12 steals and 42 rebounds. Quinnlyn Schultz led the Falcons with 13 points.

In the boys game, the Falcons had the advantage the entire game. Denver kept within striking distance throughout the first half, but AP stretched the lead to 33-23 by halftime. The Cyclones pulled to within one possession in the third quarter, but the Falcons won the fourth quarter 19-13 to seal the win and the season sweep. Benny Waller led with 28 points, Tyler Wedeking scored 15 and Caleb Campbell added 13.

AP will return to action Thursday at Wapsie Valley.
