The Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams will play their final away games of the regular season when they travel to Wapsie Valley for a North Iowa Cedar League crossover doubleheader Thursday.

The Falcon girls (12-6, 4-4 NICL-C) will go for a bounce back from Tuesday’s 55-23 home loss to #9 (2A) Denver, where they shot just 20 percent while being held to 13 points in the final three quarters.

Head Coach Brady Driscol says depth is a strength they can build on.

“In the course of the game, like some foul trouble, we’ve had girls a couple times foul out a couple times this year,” Driscol says. “At Jesup, we had a blood situation, couldn’t get the bloody nose to stop. So had to throw someone out there for an extended period of time. But it’s a credit to the kids for staying ready. There’s a lot of confidence in whoever we put on the court. They know what they’re gonna do. Everybody out there really can shoot it pretty well. We’ve seen that in the past, defend at a pretty high level. And then everyone works extremely hard when they’re out there too. Nobody’s out there dogging it at all. So it’s a credit to those kids on the bench that even though they’re not starting the game and maybe not knowing what their minutes might be that night, they’re always engaged and always ready to roll when their number’s called.”

Wapsie Valley (9-9, 6-2 NICL-E) has lost three straight, including 42-28 to #14 (2A) Jesup Tuesday.

Fresh off clinching the NICL-Central title with Tuesday’s 68-56 win over Denver, the #9 (2A) Falcon boys (16-1, 8-0 NICL-C) will go for their 10th straight win.
Wapsie Valley (9-9, 2-6 NICL-E) has lost two straight, including 57-55 to Jesup Tuesday.

The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
