The first Kansas City Barbeque Society competition will be held in Hampton August 22nd and 23rd.

Event Organizer Charlane Pralle-Janssen tells RadioOnTheGo News that she has wanted to bring this type of competition to Franklin County for some time.

“They are the ones that have the competition in Jack Daniels in Tennessee, and then they also have the American Royal in Kansas City. The headquarters is in Kansas City, and they provide the rules, they provide the judges, they provide the judge reps to make sure all the competitions in the world are ran with their quality and their rules.”

She says the number of competitors will be capped at 30.

“Large enough purse to attract the cooks because that’s what they come for. They’re all vying for first place, but they also like to win money to pay for their meat and pay for their travel. This is what they do for weekend. Ours is probably later. There’s lots of contests in June and July. Iowa has one in Ottumwa, Carroll, Spencer, but this one in August will kind of be their last chance before the Royal and the Jack Daniels. And so I’m hoping that’s enough to compete. We will be going to competitions this winter. We’ve already been to some and we encourage the people to sign up for our contest.”

First Bank Hampton is a Grand Champion Sponsor for the competition along with OnTheGoMedia as a Reserve Grand Champion Sponsor for the Brisket Contest.  United Bank and Trust Company is another Reserve Champion for the Pulled Pork Contest.
